Hôtel du Golf (B)
The Golf hotel owes its existence to the development plan for the north of Spa set up by the company "Spa-Extension" in June 1909. Josse Gihoul and Joseph Hans signed an agreement with the Belgian State which grants them in the form of a Emphyteutic lease two sets of land located at Balmoral. The objective of this redevelopment plan was to compensate for the decline in tourism in Spa following the closure of the Games in 1902.
The project that was realized included the construction of villas, hotels and a racecourse. A tram line connected Spa Station to Balmoral. In November 1914, the hotel, owned by Mr. Remacle-Minet, was booked for the Kaiser.
In his book "Douce Nuit", Marc Joseph tells that the hotel opened in 1919 for Easter. In 1921, the advertisement mentioned that the hotel has electric light, central heating, bathrooms and a telephone. Until the second war, the hotel has the comfort of this era and offers from 70 to 120 beds. In 1960, the hotel offers 60 rooms and 26 bathrooms.
In the 1970s, it will be sold to Crédit Communal de Belgique. The hotel was booked for stays of its staff. In the early 2000s, Dexia sold the building and since then it has been abandoned. The hotel is completly trashed. It must be an interesting place fort he local youth…(march 2017)
